The construction of this kiln took place at the University of Florida, Ceramic department, 2018. This project was an Independent Study for me during the summer in between my first and second year of graduate school. The project was directed by Ceramic Area Tec, Derek Reeverts.
The build of this project took 6 weeks; deconstruction of the previous kiln and construction of the new kiln. An additional 12 weeks was required to have a hole cut into the roof for the chimney, obtain a sustainable free wood source and add finishing touches to the design. These images are a progression of the project over that time period.
The greatest part of wood firing is the community that is built around the art. Below are pictures of the process of sharing my knowledge of firing with my fellow students, as well as the work from the kiln.
